Vienna International Airport: First landing by Kuwaiti Wataniya Airways in Vienna

On 2 June 2010 Wataniya Airways, Kuwait’s premium service airline, will introduce a direct connection from Vienna to Kuwait, with three flights per week on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The aircraft will leave Kuwait City at 9.45 am and land in Vienna at 2.05 pm. The return flight will depart from Vienna at 3 pm and land in Kuwait City at 8.45 pm.

This premium carrier will use an Airbus A320 on the Vienna - Kuwait route. The aircraft has one of the lowest seating capacities for a commercial aircraft in its class with a total of 122 seats, including 26 in First Class and 96 in the Premium Economy section, which provide passengers with unrivalled comfort.

Abdulsalam Al Bahar, Chairman and Managing Director of Wataniya Airways said: “We are delighted to start services to Vienna, our third major destination in Europe, and expect this city will become a key part of our global flight programme. This new service will enhance the already strong links between Kuwait and Austria, and also help the expanding commercial relationships shared by Kuwaitis and Austrians.”

“We are pleased to welcome Wataniya Airways to Vienna International Airport. This new frequency will expand our flight plan to include another interesting destination for Austrian business travellers in the Arabian region. At the same time, Vienna ? as a centre of art and culture ? offers a wide variety of attractions for foreign tourists as well as the best connections to Western and Eastern Europe“, commented Herbert Kaufmann, Speaker of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG.

Wataniya Airways was founded in 2005, and transported more than 270,000 passengers in 2009. The route network of this Kuwaiti carrier, which operates exclusively from its own Sheikh Saad Terminal in Kuwait, covers 11 destinations. It is the only carrier in Kuwait that operates from an independent terminal.
