Alitalia will resume connections on the Vienna-Rome route beginning with the summer flight plan for 2010. This Italian carrier will provide two scheduled flights per day from Vienna to Rome on seven days per week.
This additional connection between Vienna and Rome will benefit business travellers as well as tourists in both cities. We are pleased to offer this interesting product together with Alitalia, explained Friedrich Lehr, Head of Aviation at Flughafen Wien AG.
Alitalia offers flights to numerous destinations in Italy from our hub in Rome. In particular, the connecting flights to Southern Italy will benefit from this new route, added Francesco Milazzi, Alitalia Country Manager for Germany and Austria.
In spite of the economic crisis, Italy not only remained the favourite destination of Austrian travellers - we also registered a sizeable improvement in tourism flows from Austria to Italy. During the period from January to September 2009 we recorded an increase of over 15% in the number of persons travelling from Austria to Italy, indicated Martha Kammerer, Press Officer of the Italian State Tourist Board (ENIT).
These flights will be serviced by Canadair CR9 jets, which provide seating for 90 passengers.
The new Alitalia launched flight operations on 13 January 2009. The route network of this Italian carrier includes 73 destinations throughout the world.
