Vienna Airport as an economic factor

As one of the largest employers in eastern Austria, Vienna Airport is well aware of its social responsibility. The renowned Institute of Industrial Research (IWI) was commissioned by the Austrian Aviation Association to investigate the economic significance of the aviation industry for the domestic economy and presented the study in May 2015.

The sector (airlines, airports and ground infrastructure as well as suppliers) generates about 72,700 direct and indirect jobs in Austria, adding its importance for tourism. Salaries represent a considerable contribution to domestic purchasing power. Compared to 2009 (i.e. within 5 years), the value added from aviation for Austria has increased by 11.1%, the number of employees by 13,200 - that is 22.2%.
