Facts and measures for further greening
The climate can only be helped by concretely effective measures set according to serious, scientific criteria.
Rhetoric and symbolic politics detached from facts helps no one.
In 2018, over four billion passengers were counted globally. Yet the CO2 emissions of global aviation are comparatively low: in fact, aviation is responsible for only about 2.7% of global CO2 emissions.
Within Europe, this figure is a mere 0.52%. The industry is aware of its responsibility towards the environment and has been investing in greening opportunities for decades, also out of its own (cost) interest.
Three factors and their players are decisive for the impact of "aviation" on our environment:
- The aircraft used,
- the airports and the
- airspace management.
These three factors represent the relevant "adjusting screws" through which constructive influence can be exerted on aviation for the benefit of our environment. This factual overview shows the three factors aircraft, airports and airspace management and their existing potentials for environmental protection. It presents measures that have already been implemented and those that will be implemented in the near future, as well as proposing common approaches to solutions.
