The Flughafen Wien Group showed slight growth in passenger traffic in March 2025 due to later Easter holiday traffic this year. Total passenger volume in the entire Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) rose by 4.1% to 2,993,138 travellers, whereas Vienna Airport reported a 0.9% increase to 2,227,037 passengers. In contrast to March of the previous year, however, the busy Easter holidays occur in April this year.
The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport climbed slightly 0.1% compared to March 2024 to 1,772,157 travellers, whereas transfer passenger traffic rose to 449,134 travellers (+4.3%). The number of flight movements in March 2025 increased 7.7% year-on-year to 17,839 take-offs and landings. Cargo volume totalled 28,507 tonnes, comprising a rise of 9.5% from the prior-year month of March 2024.
Details on passenger traffic
In March 2025, passenger traffic from Vienna Airport to Western Europe fell slightly by 1.3% from the previous year to 751,408 passengers. The number of passengers flying to Eastern Europe in March 2025 amounted to 169,532 travellers (+0.8%). Vienna Airport reported a total of 29,009 passengers flying to North America (+6.8%), and 28,267 to Africa (-4.5%). Passenger traffic to destinations in the Middle East totalled 68,780 travellers (-6.8%) in March 2025, whereas passenger volume to the Far East was up to 47,355 travellers, comprising a year-on-year increase of 19.3%.
The strategic investments of Flughafen Wien AG continue to develop very well. Passenger volume at Malta Airport showed a rise of 14.4% to 725,134 travellers in the month of March 2025. Kosice Airport handled a total of 40,967 passengers, which represents a strong increase of 17.1% from the prior-year month.
Accumulated passenger volumes from January to March 2025: +1.8% at Vienna Airport and +4.6% in the Flughafen Wien Group
The total number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the three-month period from January to March 2025 increased by 1.8% from the previous year to the accumulated figure of 6,018,204 passengers. Total cargo volume from January to March 2025 equalled 73,280 tonnes, a rise of 7.7%. Passenger volume in the entire Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) in this period was up 4.6% to 7,929,294 travellers.
