Ars Electronica and Vienna Airport present multimedia installations in the terminal

From 1 July to 31 August 2011 travellers will have a unique opportunity to experience exciting multimedia art projects by Ars Electronica at Vienna Airport: four installations that interact with passengers have been set up under the title “Passenger ARTspace“.

“Reface“ and “Innocence“ in Pier East and Pier West

The “Reface“ installation by the US artists group Tmema is located in the waiting area near the D-Gates. Passengers can use a video camera to make their own portraits, which are then divided into three sections ? forehead, eyes and mouth ? and combined with the photos of other travellers to create a continuous stream of new “faces“. The “Innocence“ installation is on view in Pier West and Pier East. Two cameras photograph passengers and transfer the pictures to a virtual, fairytale world on a large screen. Passersby can control the scenery on the screen by moving to swirl up leaves or create waves.

“Shadowgram“ in the B-Gates

An oversized visitors‘ book has been installed at the B-Gates: “Shadowgram“ will be activated on Fridays from 2 pm to 8 pm and on Sundays from 4 pm to 8 pm. Here passengers can have their picture taken in front of a light screen. The results, a shadow image in the form of a silhouette, can be printed out as a miniature sticker and taken along as a souvenir. Passengers can also leave their silhouette together with a brief statement in a speech balloon on a “map“.

The multimedia installations are part of this year’s summer campaign for travellers at Vienna Airport. In past years passengers were entertained by street performers in the “Terminal StreetART“ or received a breakfast welcome on arrival at the airport. The first impressions of these installations have already been published under www.aec./futurelab and www.flong.com/projects/reface .
