New at Vienna Airport: THAI Offers Non-Stop Flights to Bangkok
More long-haul flight connections are available from Vienna Airport with immediate effect, as Thai Airways International has launched its services and is now represented in Vienna. THAI, a Star Alliance founding member, offers four weekly flights from Vienna to Bangkok. On the occasion of the inaugural flight, the new connection was officially opened today, on November 16, 2017, at a press event hosted by Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, Acting President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI), and Mr. Julian Jäger, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG.
“We welcome THAI, a new carrier to Vienna Airport and an airline with more than 50 years of experience in the aviation sector. The Thai airline connects Vienna to Bangkok, Thailand’s most important transport hub. This modern but traditional metropolis of the country is considered to be its political and economic centre, featuring an impressive cultural offering for visitors, including numerous Buddhist temple complexes and museums. More than 80,000 people have already travelled to Bangkok this year from Vienna. Thanks to the new flight connections, we now offer 15 weekly frequencies,” says Mr. Julian Jäger, Member of the Management Board of Flughafen Wien AG, pleased with the new flight connection.
“With the launch of this non-stop service between Bangkok and Vienna, THAI is proud to be part of this cooperation to further strengthen the relationship between our two countries. As the national carrier of the Kingdom of Thailand, one of our top priorities is the expansion of our network world wide which is a key factor to help drive the country’s economy. Vienna is the gateway to central Europe, and I believe passengers will enjoy a quick and convenient connection to other destinations throughout Europe. Likewise passengers from both Central and Eastern Europe can easily travel to Thailand on our non-stop flights, which takes only 10 hours flying time. From Bangkok passengers can also find convenient connections to other parts of Asia and Australia on our networks. We are certain that business as well as leisure passengers flying to and from Vienna or Bangkok will definitely enjoy our Smooth as Silk services", says Mrs. Usanee Sangsingkeo, Acting President of Thai Airways International Public Company Limited.
“The new non-stop flight connection will not only provide a boost to overnight stays in Vienna on the part of guests from Southeast Asia, but the four weekly flights with a total of about 1,400 seats will also strengthen the Australia-Vienna axis by adding a high-quality flight offering. THAI serves important growth markets, comprising an ideal basis for a longstanding and promising partnership with Vienna”, says Mr. Norbert Kettner, Director of the Vienna Tourist Board, in welcoming the airline.
Four weekly flights to Bangkok
The Boeing B777-300ER will be operated on this new flight service. The aircraft will take off on the Vienna-Bangkok route every Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The flights will leave Bangkok at 1:30 a.m. and land at 7 a.m. local time in Vienna. The return flight from Vienna will depart at 1:30 p.m. and arrive in Bangkok at 5:20 a.m. local time on the following day.
THAI – founding member of Star Alliance
The national airline of the Kingdom of Thailand serves approximately 20 million passengers each year, and is a founding member of Star Alliance, the first global airline alliance that celebrates 20 years of establishment as the alliance that connects people and cultures. THAI boasts a fleet of 100 aircraft, including six Airbus A380, currently the largest passenger jet in the world. In addition to Bangkok, the route network includes 11 destinations in Thailand and a total of 81 cities, 82 airports in 33 countries on three continents. The corporate logo as well as its corporate colours reflect Thai traditions, history, and culture. The corporate colours of gold, magenta, and purple are reminders of the golden temple grounds, the colour intensity of shimmering Thai silk and the bright colours of orchids.
