In January 2018, the total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport, Kosice Airport) rose by 4.6% to 1.9 million travellers. Vienna Airport also developed positively, with the total number of passengers up 1.9% in January 2018.
Vienna Airport in January 2018: passenger volume up 1.9% from the previous year
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of January 2018 rose by 1.9% compared to the prior-year month to 1,472,161 travellers. The number of local passengers was up by 2.5%, whereas transfer passenger volume increased by 1.1%. In January 2018, the number of flight movements was up slightly by 0.1% in a year-on-year comparison. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport showed a significant increase of 14.9% from the comparable level of January 2017.
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Eastern Europe climbed 9.9% in January 2018, whereas passenger traffic to Western Europe was up 1.6%. In January 2018, the number of passengers travelling to the Far East climbed by 21.9% from the prior-year month in contrast to the 10.7% decline in passenger volume to Middle Eastern destinations. The number of passengers travelling to North America was down by 17.6%, but passenger traffic to Africa developed positively, increasing by 36.2%.
Malta Airport reported strong growth in passenger volume of 16.7% in the month of January 2018, and Kosice Airport also showed a gratifying year-on-year rise of 15.8% in the number of passengers it handled.
