10.6% rise in the number of passengers at Vienna Airport, flight movements up 3.0%
The total number of passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport, Kosice Airport) in March 2018 rose significantly by 12.8% year-on-year to 2.4 million travellers. The accumulated passenger volume in the period January-March 2018 showed an increase of 9.0% to 6.1 million. Vienna Airport also developed extremely positively, with the total number of passengers up 6.6% from January to March 2018.
Vienna Airport in March: +10.6% rise in passenger volume
The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport in the month of March 2018 rose by 10.6% compared to the prior-year month to 1,908,514 travellers. The number of local passengers was up by 11.2%, whereas transfer passenger volume climbed by 9.1%. In March 2018, the number of flight movements also clearly increased by 3.0% in a year-on-year comparison. Cargo volume at Vienna Airport showed a minus of 3.3% from the comparable level of March 2017.
The total number of passengers at Vienna Airport flying to destinations in Eastern Europe was up 10.6% in March 2018, and passenger traffic to Western Europe rose by 9.2%. In March 2018, the number of passengers travelling to the Far East increased by 48.0% from the prior-year month, and passenger volume to Middle Eastern destinations climbed by 16.9%. The number of passengers travelling to North America was up by 21.6%, and passenger traffic to Africa developed positively, rising by 69.9%.
Malta Airport reported strong growth in passenger volume of 22.5% in the month of March 2018, and Kosice Airport also showed a gratifying year-on-year rise of 17.1% in the number of passengers it handled.
