China Eastern Airlines Heads for Vienna Airport
Three weekly flight connections from Shanghai starting in June 2024
Even more travel possibilities will soon be available for passengers travelling between China and Austria. China Eastern Airlines, one of the largest airlines in the People’s Republic of China, will launch flight service to Vienna. Starting on 22 June 2024, the airline will connect the Austrian capital city and the cosmopolitan metropolis of Shanghai. Flight service between the two cities will be offered three times per week throughout the entire year, deploying a Airbus A330-200 aircraft. China is an important market for Vienna Airport, and the new flight connection is a growth driver for business and tourism in Austria.
“Vienna Airport welcomes a new carrier. China Eastern Airlines, one of China’s most important airlines, will operate flights to Vienna for the very first time. As a result, new travel possibilities are available between Vienna and Shanghai and beyond i.e., to numerous global destinations in the airline’s route network. The new long-haul flight connection strengthens the role of Vienna Airport as a hub and also represents another encouraging sign of the economic and tourism recovery between Austria and China,” states Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.
“China was Vienna’s second biggest distant market before the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, accounting for half a million overnight stays p.a. The decision on the part of China Eastern to operate flights to Vienna as of June of this year provides significant support to us in appealing to our Chinese target group, in which we exclusively focus on the high value-added luxury segment,” explains Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board.
