Passenger numbers at Vienna Airport continue to increase: In June 2024, passenger volume rose by 8.4% to 3,970,365 travellers in the Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) and by 6.5% to 3,020,849 travellers at Vienna Airport compared to the prior-year month. With more than 113,000 passengers, Vienna Airport recorded the strongest travel day in its history on Friday, 28th of June 2024. The individual month of June was also the strongest June in the airport's history with more than 3.0 million travellers. In the first half of 2024 (1-6/2024), Vienna Airport reported a 7.9% rise in passenger traffic to 14,386,331 travellers, comprising 98.1% of the pre-crisis level of 2019.
The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport in June 2024 rose to 2,338,351 comprising a rise of 8.5% compared to the prior-year month. Transfer passenger traffic was up by 0.1% to 673,526 travellers. The number of flight movements in June 2024 increased 5.6% year-on-year to 21,874 take-offs and landings. Cargo volume equalled 24,808 tonnes, up 21.1% from June 2023.
Details on passenger traffic in June 2024
Passenger traffic from Vienna Airport to Western Europe rose to 1,060,815 passengers in June 2024, comprising an increase of 7.1% from the previous year. The number of passengers flying to Eastern Europe in June 2024 amounted to 265,382 travellers (+6.2%). Vienna Airport reported a total of 43,765 passengers flying to North America (-4.7%), and 27,799 to Africa (+20.5%). Passenger traffic to destinations in the Middle East totalled 73,022 travellers (-6.8%), whereas passenger volume to the Far East climbed to 42,089 travellers (+4.8%).
The strategic investments of Flughafen Wien AG also developed very well. Passenger volume at Malta Airport rose 13.9% to 858,738 travellers in June 2024. Kosice Airport handled a total of 90,778 passengers, up sharply 28.1% from the prior-year month.
Passenger volumes in the first half of 2024: +7.9% in Vienna and +10.1% of the Flughafen Wien Group
In the first half of 2024 (January – June), passenger traffic at Vienna Airport was up 7.9% to a total of 14,386,331 travellers, corresponding to 98.1% of the pre-crisis level in the first six months of 2019. Cargo volume climbed 17.9% from January to June 2024 to 141,118 tonnes. In the same period, total passenger volume in the Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport), rose by 10.1% to 18,721,110 travellers.
