Vienna Airport supports Ukrainian airports: Signing of collaborative agreement and donation of technical equipment
| Press releases

In the future, Ukrainian airports and Vienna Airport will work more closely together: a collaborative agreement was concluded between the Ukrainian Association Airports of Ukraine and Vienna Airport. The agreement focuses on the professional exchange between the airports and the donation of airport equipment to strengthen the operational infrastructure. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Petro Lypovenko, President of the Association Airports of Ukraine of civil aviation (AAUCA) and Julian Jäger, joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport and President of the Austrian Airports Association (AÖV) during the delegation trip to Ukraine in the presence of Johanna Mikl-Leitner, Governor of Lower Austria, Kari Ochsner, President of the Federation of Austrian Industries of Lower Austria and Oleksii Kuleba, Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for the Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine.
“Even though the current situation is very difficult for the Ukrainian airports due to the war, the airports are already dealing with the challenges of restoring the infrastructure and resuming regular flight operations throughout the country once this conflict hopefully ends soon. As Vienna Airport, we want to support them in this endeavour within the framework of our cooperation agreement”, states Julian Jäger, joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport and President of the Austrian Airports Association (AÖV).

The collaborative agreement focuses on the professional exchange between the airports, the evaluation of possible synergies and the identification of future joint market potential. Vienna Airport will also provide specialised vehicles and technical equipment for Ukrainian airports to further strengthen the operational infrastructure. Vienna Airport is already positioned as an efficient transport and logistics hub between East and West for Austria's economy. With its participation in Kosice Airport, located only 100 km from the Ukrainian border, Vienna Airport is also successfully active in its immediate geographical neighbourhood.
Business delegation from the Federation of Austrian Industries of Lower Austria in Ukraine
From 31 March to 2 April 2025, a business delegation with 60 members from the Federation of Austrian Industries of Lower Austria travelled to Ukraine. The three-day mission focussed on company visits and high-level political talks, including with Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Economy Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Infrastructure Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Energy Minister German Galushchenko. Four Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were also signed between Austrian and Ukrainian partners at a business forum organised jointly with the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UCCI). Another item on the agenda was a visit to Hostomel military airport. The battle for Kiev-Hostomel Airport in 2022 was a failed airborne operation by the Russian armed forces, which was repelled by the Ukrainian armed forces.
