Final Flight of a Legend: Condor Retires Its Boeing 757 at Vienna Airport – and Expands Its Presence with Three Daily Flights to Frankfurt

An era ends, and a new chapter begins. With the retirement of the Boeing 757-300, Condor bids farewell to an aircraft that shaped the airline’s history — and to the last passenger Boeing 757 of its type operating in Europe. This milestone was marked on November 5, 2025, during a dedicated farewell event at Vienna Airport. Among the guests were Peter Gerber, CEO of Condor; Christian Schmitt, COO of Condor; Ines Fröhlich, State Secretary at the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Development; and Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport. Condor and Vienna Airport look back on a long partnership: since 2001, the airline has flown half a million passengers to and from Vienna. In March 2025, Vienna officially became a Condor base with an aircraft stationed on site. Starting this winter, Condor will increase its service to Frankfurt to three daily flights.

“Condor’s Boeing 757 fleet has written aviation history — and today marks the close of a remarkable chapter. At the same time, the airline is strengthening its success story in Vienna with a modern Airbus A321neo and a significantly increased frequency. For a heritage airline like Condor to expand its capacity in Vienna is a strong sign of trust and a clear commitment to Austria as a location. Three daily flights to Frankfurt mean more connectivity and even better access to Germany’s largest intercontinental hub. My special thanks go to the entire Condor team for the long-standing and reliable partnership,” says Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.

“Choosing Vienna as the destination for the farewell flight highlights the growing importance of Condor’s new city destinations within our network. Since spring 2025, Condor has been connecting Frankfurt with nine attractive metropolitan cities across Europe — and this winter, we are even operating the route three times per day. Vienna Airport provided exceptional support in organizing and executing our Boeing 757 farewell event. We are grateful to have such a strong partner by our side and are delighted that we could celebrate the start of this new chapter together,” says Peter Gerber, CEO of Condor.

“The Boeing 757 has been a symbol of Condor’s leisure travel operations for decades. With its retirement, a new fleet era begins for Condor. Our modern Airbus aircraft are quieter, more efficient, and more economical — they represent the future of our airline. The overwhelming positive response and enthusiasm surrounding the end of the Boeing era and the start of this new chapter demonstrate just how meaningful this moment is for Condor, our employees, and our partners,” adds Christian Schmitt, COO of Condor.

“Condor is a flagship for Germany’s aviation sector — innovative, reliable, and strongly committed to Europe. Today’s event in Vienna shows that strong aviation is driven by progress, partnership, and bold decisions,” says Ines Fröhlich, State Secretary at the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Farewell Boeing 757: The End of an Icon
Condor’s final Boeing 757-300 flight operated from Frankfurt to Vienna. More than 300 invited guests — including long-time companions, aviation enthusiasts, and representatives from politics, business, and the aviation industry — gathered at Vienna Airport to bid farewell to the last aircraft of its kind in commercial passenger service in Europe. After 35 years, an era comes to a close: since 1990, Condor operated a total of 33 Boeing 757 aircraft (both 757-200 and 757-300 models). The fleet peaked in the early 2000s with 26 aircraft in simultaneous operation. Since 2024, Condor has been renewing its short- and medium-haul fleet, transitioning to modern Airbus aircraft.

Condor Base in Vienna: Three Daily Flights to Frankfurt
With the retirement of the Boeing 757-300, a new chapter begins. Since March 2025, Condor has operated a base in Vienna with a permanently stationed aircraft serving its home hub Frankfurt daily. This winter, Condor operates this route three times per day. Passengers benefit from an additional direct connection to one of Europe’s largest international transfer hubs — with convenient morning, midday, and evening departures for business travelers and long-haul connections. The route is operated with a modern Airbus A321neo.
