March 2026 Traffic Results: 3,146,473 passengers handled by the Flughafen Wien Group (+5.1%) and 2,269,047 passengers at Vienna Airport (+1.9%)

The Flughafen Wien Group showed a positive development of passenger traffic in March 2026. Total passenger volume in the entire Group (Vienna Airport, Malta Airport and Kosice Airport) climbed by 5.1% year-on-year to 3,146,473 travellers. The number of passengers handled by Vienna Airport rose by 1.9% to 2,269,047 in the month of March 2026. Passenger volume at Malta Airport in March 2026 climbed by 12.5% to 815,947 travellers and Kosice Airport registered strong growth of 50.1% to 61.479 passengers. Since 28 February 2026, the conflict in the Middle East has resulted in restrictions on air traffic in the region and is currently having a dampening effect on passenger traffic development at Vienna Airport. Any potential longer-term impact will depend on the duration of these adverse conditions. Based on current expectations, Flughafen Wien AG’s traffic and financial guidance for the 2026 financial year remains unchanged.

The number of local passengers at Vienna Airport rose slightly by 0.5% compared to March 2025 to 1,781,433 travellers and the transfer passenger traffic rose by 1.5% to 455,896. For this reason, the increase in passenger traffic at Vienna Airport is mainly related to refuelling stops on the part of Air India aircraft, in which passengers are not permitted to leave the planes (so-called “transit passengers”).

The number of flight movements in March 2026 declined by 1.4% to 17,585 take-offs and landings. The seat load factor was up 4.0 percantage points compared to March 2025, reaching 78.4%. Cargo volume totalled 26,221 tonnes (-0.8%).

Vienna Airport reported a total of 30,310 passengers flying to North America (+4.5%) and 31,250 travellers to Africa (+10.6%). Due to the crisis situation in the Middle East, passengers traffic to and from the Middle East region were down by 90.1% in March 2026 to 6,809 travellers. Whereas passenger volume to the Far East totalled 67,027 (+41.5%).
