Vienna Airport welcomes a new airline: AnimaWings launches direct flights to Cluj-Napoca from July 2026
| Press releases

AnimaWings takes off in Austria: From July 17 2026, the Romanian airline will operate two weekly flights between Cluj-Napoca and Vienna. Using a modern Airbus A220-300, passengers can travel directly to the heart of Transylvania – Cluj is renowned for its creative scene, historic old town, and the unique atmosphere of the Transylvanian region.
“With AnimaWings, our airport is gaining a new European airline with fresh momentum and an attractive offering for travellers. The new connection brings more choice to our summer flight schedule, strengthens connections to major business hubs and expands our route network to Eastern Europe with an exciting destination full of unique charm – exactly the kind of cities that are increasingly sought after for city trips beyond the classic hotspots. We look forward to working with AnimaWings,” said Julian Jäger, joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.
“We are delighted to announce our new direct service between Cluj-Napoca and Vienna, further strengthening AnimaWings’ international network and offering passengers more convenient travel options between Romania and Austria. Vienna is an important business and cultural hub, while Cluj-Napoca is one of Romania’s most dynamic and fast-growing cities, with a vibrant creative and technology scene. We are confident that this new route will attract both business and leisure travellers and we look forward to welcoming passengers onboard our modern aircraft,” said Marius Pandel, CEO AnimaWings.

Cluj-Napoca: Young, Creative, and Full of History
Cluj-Napoca captivates visitors with an extraordinary blend of historical charm, a modern creative scene, and impressive natural surroundings. The vibrant university city attracts visitors with cozy cafés, trendy restaurants, festivals, and a lively nightlife – and has long been considered one of Eastern Europe’s most exciting hidden gems for city breaks. At the same time, Cluj is the perfect starting point for exploring the fascinating region of Transylvania: medieval towns, the stunning landscapes of the Carpathian Mountains, and the world-famous legends surrounding Dracula give the region its distinctive atmosphere. Just around 30 kilometres from Cluj lies Salina Turda, one of Europe’s most extraordinary attractions – a spectacular former salt mine featuring an underground Ferris wheel, boat rides, and enormous caverns deep beneath the earth’s surface.
