New Airline at Vienna Airport: AnimaWings Launches Direct Service to Cluj-Napoca

AnimaWings has officially commenced operations at Vienna Airport: Following today's inaugural flight, the Romanian airline now connects Vienna with Cluj-Napoca twice weekly with nonstop service. Flights operate every Tuesday and Friday using a modern Airbus A220-300 aircraft. The new route expands Vienna Airport's network with an attractive destination in Romania while strengthening connectivity to one of Eastern Europe's most dynamic regions. From the start of the 2026 winter schedule, the service will increase to three weekly flights

“We are delighted to welcome AnimaWings as a new airline at Vienna Airport, further expanding our network in Eastern Europe with an attractive new direct connection. Cluj-Napoca combines strong economic momentum with a vibrant cultural and creative scene, making it an appealing destination for both business and leisure travellers. We look forward to working with AnimaWings and are pleased to welcome the airline to Vienna Airport,” said Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport.

“Cluj-Napoca is one of the most dynamic economic and innovation centers in Romania, while Vienna is a key European capital for business, international connectivity and tourism. By launching this direct route, we are responding to a constant demand from companies, the Romanian community abroad and passengers looking for efficient, full-service travel options from regional airports. At the same time, this new connection reflects our commitment to developing direct routes from Romania’s regional cities to major European economic centres,” said Marius Pandel, CEO and Co-founder of AnimaWings.

Cluj-Napoca: Young, Creative, and Full of History
Cluj-Napoca captivates visitors with an extraordinary blend of historical charm, a modern creative scene, and impressive natural surroundings. The vibrant university city attracts visitors with cozy cafés, trendy restaurants, festivals, and a lively nightlife – and has long been considered one of Eastern Europe’s most exciting hidden gems for city breaks. At the same time, Cluj is the perfect starting point for exploring the fascinating region of Transylvania: medieval towns, the stunning landscapes of the Carpathian Mountains, and the world-famous legends surrounding Dracula give the region its distinctive atmosphere. Just around 30 kilometres from Cluj lies Salina Turda, one of Europe’s most extraordinary attractions – a spectacular former salt mine featuring an underground Ferris wheel, boat rides, and enormous caverns deep beneath the earth’s surface.
