Cycle route for residents, employees and cycling enthusiasts

With the support of the state of Lower Austria, Schwechat, Fischamend and Vienna Airport have jointly developed a cycle route for residents, employees and cycling enthusiasts. This route not only connects the communities with the airport, but also closes the gap between the city centre of Vienna and Lower Austria. The airport is now easily accessible by bike for everyone.

The new airport cycle route runs from the town of Schwechat via Vienna Airport to the town of Fischamend and is ideal for cycling thanks to its flat terrain. Around 35,000 people live in the immediate vicinity of the airport. Around 20,000 people work at Vienna Airport, of whom around 40% come from Lower Austria and around 40% from Vienna. The good infrastructure and excellent network of connections to main and secondary routes enable an environmentally friendly way of getting to and from work, shopping and leisure activities.

The links to the main routes take you to the Thermenregion cycle path, the Danube cycle path south and north, the Donauauen National Park and Lake Neusiedl, among other places. To support an increase in traffic on the 17 km long cycle route, attractive bicycle parking facilities, Nextbike rental stations and a well-signposted cycle route system have been set up.
